These Orange Chai Scones are tender cream scones with fresh orange and chai spice flavors and are topped with a sweet homemade orange glaze making them a perfect breakfast, brunch, or dessert.

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Set aside.
  2. In a small bowl, whisk egg, sour cream, heavy cream, and vanilla extract.
  3. Mix flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, chai spice, and orange zest in a large bowl or the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the paddle. Cut in cold butter with a pastry cutter or mixer paddle. Mix the dough until the butter is about the size of peas and the dough resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Add the egg mixture to the large bowl with the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Do not overmix.
  5. Turn the dough onto a floured surface and pat it into a one-inch thick circle. Cut into 8 triangles. Place scones on the parchment-lined baking sheet, spacing evenly apart.
  6. Brush the tops of each scone with a little heavy cream. Bake for 15-16 minutes or until scones are golden brown. Cool on a wire rack.
  7. While the scones are cooling, In a small bowl, mix the melted butter, vanilla extract, orange juice, and powdered sugar (adding 1/2 cup at a time until desired consistency). Pour the glaze over the scones and let set for 10 minutes.
