Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.
- In a small saucepan, melt one tablespoon of butter over low-medium heat. Add the diced apples, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, and brown sugar. Cook for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally. Cool completely.
- In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, mix flour, sugars, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon.
- With the mixer on low, drop in the cubes of butter one at a time. When the mixture resembles coarse crumbs, add the egg and heavy cream only mixing until just combined.
- On a floured surface, turn out the dough and pat into a 1-inch thick circle. Cut the dough into eighths, place on a parchment-lined baking sheet, brush tops with some heavy cream. Bake for 17-18 minutes, or until golden brown.
- While cooking, in a small bowl, mix the powdered sugar, syrup, and milk until combined and reaches icing consistency.
- Allow the scones to cool for a couple of minutes and then pour on the icing.
