  1. In the bowl of your stand mixer, dissolve the sugar and yeast in the warm water and let sit for 5 minutes until the top becomes foamy.
  2. To the bowl, add flour, salt, and softened butter. Using the paddle attachment, mix until well combined.
  3. Change to the dough hook and knead for about 8 minutes until the dough forms a ball and is no longer sticky.
  4. Cover the bowl with a dishtowel or plastic wrap and let sit for 1 1/2 hours until doubled in size.
  5. Once the dough has doubled, punch down and measure 2 oz portions of dough and roll each into sticks about 7 inches long.
  6. Place the dough sticks onto baking sheets, cover, and let sit for 1 hour until doubled in size again.
  7. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.
  8. Bake the breadsticks for 10 minutes or until just lightly brown.
  9. Combine the melted butter and garlic salt, and just after the breadsticks come out of the oven, brush them with the butter mixture using a pastry brush.
